You are my Sunshine

There are times when it is so humbling to be a father to such sweet precious children. I had an experience this morning with my darling daughter that just has to be shared. She is about 2 1/2 now and she has what I consider superb language skills. Kira found these videos called Signing Time which teaches little kids sign language. We think it really helped Savannah to pick up words a lot faster. She was saying full sentence since she was about 19-20 months. So anyway she is definitely a two year old when it comes to her questions and her seemingly never ending Why?'s and her latest one for the last 4 weeks or so has been that she will come up to me and ask why I'm going to work. This happens almost on a daily basis and has grown to include asking me to come home every time I speak to her on the phone while I am at work. It is absolutely precious and heart wrenching at the same time but she has been saying it enough that I've grown a little use to the questions. So picture this from this morning:
Savannah had come in as usual and crawled into bed to say hi. This little morning ritual is usually filled with giggles and hugs and kisses and this morning was no exception. I then dragged myself out of bed to start getting ready. Not missing a beat she asked. "Why you go work dad?" "To make money sweetie." "Oh, why?" "So we have a house to live in." "Oh, why?" "So we have food to eat." "Oh, why?" "So we have clothes to wear." "Oh, I want you to stay home with Meena Dad." (Meena is her nickname Hunter gave her the day she was born) "I know sweetie I'm sorry I have to go to work." By this point I've grabbed my clothes and I on my way to the shower. I quickly forget about the entire conversation, like I said this exchange has been happening on almost a daily basis for weeks. When I answer her I've never expected to really get the concepts but I figure it doesn't hurt to explain when their young why daddy goes off every day right?
So I am deep in thought at this point about the day ahead, I was having a meeting with my department, going to do a little training, handle some issues, catch up on this and that, I had a whole list running through my head and I was kinda surprised as I was walking out of the room and Meena came bursting through the door. She was holding up a two dollar bill. Kira's grandma gives them to the kids for birthdays and such. She exclaims excitedly, "Dad! I got out of bed and found money Dad!" "That's great sweetie!" You've probably already put it together but at this point I had no clue what she was meaning. She said it again this time holding it up above her head with both hands "Look dad I found money!" "That's great sweetie, now you have some money yay!" I'm trying to match her excitement so she can see that I'm happy for her to have money. Undaunted she exclaims again, "Dad, I found money dad, stay home now please dad, pleeeeaaaaasssse." All of the sudden I put it all together and I had to hurry and hug her so she wouldn't see me getting all teary eyed and think something was wrong.
I will never understand how some guys can look at this dad gig and think it is an inconvenience or a bother. You cannot buy experiences like this. Experiences like this are little glimpse into Heaven given to us from those who have so recently come from our Heavenly Father. What better joy can be found this. I know, I'm sounding sappy today, but it was just one of those kinda days.
Kira made these paper hearts and hung them from our chandelier in the kitchen. She glued the pieces of paper together so they were double sided and then ran them through the sewing machine. They add a festive valentines day atmosphere to the place.
